Adult Racing Program - 2026 Series (30 Apr 2026)

2026 Adult Racing Program:

Thursday evening race series. Dock gate opens at 5:30 PM. Please arrive no later than 6:00 PM for boat rigging and getting out on the water. Race coordinator will assist in assigning members to boats if they do not already have someone to sail with. No single handed sailing is permitted. (Please remember to bring your lifejacket!)

The NOR/SIs will be posted in April.

Entire Season - $360.00

THURSDAY EVENINGS - April 30th, May 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, June 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, August 6th, 13h, 20th, 27th, September 3rd, 10th.

First Half of the Season - $180.00

*Registration for any portion of the Adult Racing Program prior to June 18th includes registration for the 2026 Solstice Cup on Saturday, June 20th - More details to come!

(Save the Date! Cantina Cup is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026. Additional Regatta Fees are required to participate in Cantina Cup. We host this very special event as our Annual Signature Fundraiser to provide financial support for our Youth Scholarship Program.)

2026 Intro to FJ's Students:

You will be eligible to attend two races without fees following the completion of the Intro to FJ Course. If you would like to continue with the Racing Program, please contact us to arrange for an invoice to be created for the balance of the season's registration fees.

June Session: comp'd the June 18th and June 25th Races - then required to pay for the balance of the season.

July Session: comp'd the July 16th and July 23rd Races - then required to pay for the balance of the season.

August Session: comp'd the August 13th and August 20th Races - then required to pay for the balance of the season.

Race Series will end on September 10, 2026.

Payment Information: Please be advised that unpaid registrations will be automatically cancelled after 15 minutes by the system. Please be sure to have your credit/debit card on hand at the time of registration to complete the registration process.

Adult Beginner Learn to Sail Lessons: Sessions are comprised four lessons to complete the course over two Saturdays and two Sundays, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Please note ability to reschedule any missed class is unlikely. Before continuing with your registration, please assure that your calendar will allow for attendance over the two weekends. We are unable to split lessons due to logistics.

Full payment by a credit card is required at the time of registration. Unpaid registrations will be cancelled by the system automatically after 15 minutes. Please be sure to have your payment information available at the time of online registration.

Cancellation & Refund Policy:

Enjoy a sunset sail aboard the American Spirit every-other Friday from May through mid-October. Sign up today for this unique and relaxing sail from the deck of a classic-rigged sailing ship!

*Boarding is at 5:30 PM and the boat will depart promptly at 6:00 PM.

Helpful Information:

Food & Beverage: We do not offer food and beverage service on board for purchase. You're encouraged to bring along a picnic and drinks (beer/wine are permitted - no spirits, please.) Be sure to also bring drinking water to remain hydrated. Keep your food menu super simple such as sandwiches/snacks. You will need to include whatever supplies you need to to serve your food/beverage such as napkins, small paper plates, plastic cups, etc. The Crew will have two large coolers stocked with ice for passengers to share.

Little Sailors: Children are most welcome! You'll need to purchase a ticket for them, infants included. Strollers are permitted. Our Crew will stow the strollers below decks during the sail. There is no power available during the sail, so please be prepared with supplies for your children as we do not have the ability to warm food or bottles, for example.

Restroom: There is a unisex restroom on board.

What to Wear/Bring: You may wish to bring along a lap blanket and be sure to dress for the weather. Even in warm weather, it can be cooler on the water, so bring along a jacket or sweater if needed. Wear closed-toe, soft soled shoes - sneakers are perfect. Sandals, flip-flops, heels, or wedges are not permitted. This is for passenger safety as the deck can become wet and we wish for you to be safe.

Sailing Area: American Spirit is located at The Wharf on the Washington Channel. We sail down to the confluence of the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers and typically sail south on the Potomac River toward Old Town Alexandria or National Harbor. It takes about 90 minutes to reach that area and we then swing around and return to our docks to complete the three-hour sail. We can sail up the Anacostia River to the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge but not beyond due to her tall masts that won'd clear the bridge.

Please Note: We are unable to sail close to the Mall/Monuments due to the bridges on the Potomac River. The sailing area we access is quite beautiful and we've never had a complaint!

Cancellation: If severe weather (thunderstorms, excessive winds, high heat and/or air quality warnings, etc.) prevents us from being able to safely leave the docks, we will issue a cancellation and full refund of your purchase. Please be advised that we will not cancel in the event of light rain/mist. Rain gear/poncho is then suggested. Cancellation notices are sent out via email typically two hours prior to the planned departure time.

Registration: When setting up the registration, you are the "primary" passenger. Complete the information for yourself first and then will have the option for adding guests. Example: If you have a party of four, you are Passenger One, and then will add three other guests - one at a time. Once you save everything, you'll be directed to issue payment to secure the registration.

Payment Information: Full payment must be made at the time of registration. Pending registrations without payment will be auto-cancelled by the system after 15 minutes. Please have your payment information available at the time of registration.

Refresher Course - Session 7 (13 Jun 2026)

A bit rusty in your sailing skills? No need to take lessons all over again...we recommend that you take a Refresher Course.

These single session courses can be used to help you with your specific need, such as rigging, points of sail, person overboard drills, etc. Each student is encouraged to let your instructor know which skills you want to fine-tune!

One day session from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Lesson is a maximum of four students (or less) and one Instructor and takes place on a Flying Scot.

This registration form is for an individual booking of Adult Refresher Course.

Basic Members: Cost is $145. You will need to be logged into your DC Sail profile to proceed with registration.

Super Members: One complimentary Refresher Course per year. You will need to be logged into your DC Sail profile to proceed with registration. The database will recognize you and no invoice will be generated. (Admiral and Lifetime Members also qualify for this complimentary offer. Just select the "Super Member" level when registering.)

The Intro to FJs course will introduce you the exciting world of high-performance racing boats with instruction on the basics of small boat handling on our fleet of Flying Juniors (FJs).

You will learn how to properly rig and de-rig the boats, the theories behind boat balance, & how to achieve proper sail trim.

This course will also cover some of the basics of racing and includes two complimentary sessions in our Adult Race Series (Thursday evenings) directly following completion of the course.

This registration is for an individual booking of Adult Intro to FJs Course.

Schooner Camp, which is held aboard our 65-foot schooner, American Spirit, from Monday through Friday will educate students on subjects pertaining sailing on a schooner, seamanship, local history and marine science with a focus on local flora and fauna. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects are part of the excellent, award-winning, on-the-water and dockside curriculum.

Intro to FJs - August Session (08 Aug 2026)

Session Dates: August 8th and August 9th

Lessons are 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Current/Active Paid Membership with DC Sail is required to register for this course.

The Intro to FJs course will introduce you the exciting world of high-performance racing boats with instruction on the basics of small boat handling on our fleet of Flying Juniors (FJs).

You will learn how to properly rig and de-rig the boats, the theories behind boat balance, & how to achieve proper sail trim.

This course will also cover some of the basics of racing and includes two complimentary sessions in our Adult Race Series (Thursday evenings) directly following completion of the course.

This registration is for an individual booking of Adult Intro to FJs Course.
