Thanks for signing up for a DC Sail lesson!

Before you hit the water, please review this information:

Life jackets

All sailors must wear a lifejacket before they step foot aboard all of our small boats. We provide life jackets for everyone.

What to Bring

  • A printed receipt to confirm payment
  • Medical & Waiver Form (Must be filled out before you can sail. Packets are available at the sailing facility.)
  • Hat, sunblock, bottled water

What to Wear

Wear something you don't mind getting a little dirty and consider what the weather is going to be both in terms of temperature and wind speed. It tends to be a bit cooler on the water than on land.

Shoes: tennis sneakers or shoes designed for sailing have the best traction, but any shoe of some sort will suffice (the softer the sole the better). You must wear close toe shoes or sports sandals (Chocos or Tevas). Flip-flops and open back shoes are not permitted.

Top: a t-shirt will often do the job, but if it's windy or rainy, a light fleece top, sweatshirt, rain jacket or some combination will meet your needs.

Bottom: shorts of pants, depending on the temperature.

Certification Guarantee

Our Beginner classes are designed around the US Sailing Level 1 Certification, and we are confident that upon completion you will be ready to pass the US Sailing Level 1 Certification test.

If you are unable to pass the US Sailing Level 1 certification test, you can arrange to have one additional session with an instructor for free.

We then encourage you to retest for your US Sailing Level 1 Certification so that you can rent a Flying Scot on your own.
