The Greg Simonson Commodore Award

The Greg Simonson Commodore Award is given annually to the volunteer to devotes their time, effort, and consideration to entirety of DC Sail. Greg Simonson, to whom this award is dedicated, has worked tirelessly for years both on and off the waterfront. A NMHF Board Member and the founding Chairman of the Sailors Advisory Group, Greg is an integral part of the DC Sail team and without his help, DC Sail would not be as successful as we are.

Nicole Didyk (2011)



Nicole came to DC Sail in 2010 and since joining she has taken our racing programs by storm! An experienced racer who races throughout the country, Nicole has lent her knowledge of the sport to helping run our Frostbiting and Summer Racing programs. This summer Nicole put a huge amount of effort into helping DC Sail with it's 4th annual Cantina Cup Regatta. From hours of planning to running the race courses on the day of, Nicole truly has shown her dedication to DC Sail. Thank you Nicole!

Seth Berger (2010)



Seth has been an incredibly dedicated volunteer and friend to DC Sail for many years. He has assisted in nearly every aspect of DC Sail's operations and continuously promotes our cause. Seth is a certified US Sailing Level 1 instructor who has helped with creating our website, marketing through social media, and instructing at the waterfront among other things. We are extremely grateful to have such a devoted and enthusiastic volunteer in our community. Thank you Seth!

            The Peter Rees              Fleet Captain Award

The Peter Rees Fleet Captain Award is given annually to a volunteer who shows true dedication to the means by which DC Sail functions: our fleet. Peter Rees has devoted countless hours keeping our well-worn fleet in the best possible shape. Maintaining our boats against the wear and tear of the many DC Sail programs is a full time, never ending job, that Peter does with pleasure. We cannot thank Peter enough for the time and skills that he has lent to DC Sail.

Andrew Barabasz (2011)



Andrew has been a part of the DC Sail family for many years. He has used his expertise to help DC Sail with its finances and has given hundreds of hours of volunteer time down on the docks. In 2009 Andrew came up with the idea for one of our most popular programs, Social Sail. By running this weekly program, Andrew has introduced countless people to DC Sail as they come down to the docks on summer nights and go out for evening sails. Thank you Andrew!

Tom Sliter (2010)



Tom has been a volunteer with DC Sail for nearly seven years and continues to be one of our most innovative members. Tom graciously donates a great deal of his time down at the docks repairing boats, bringing tools, instructing lessons and keeping our programs afloat. (literally and figuratively) He is also a certified US Sailing Level 1 instructor that generously shares his knowledge of the sailing world with us. It is rare to find such an enjoyable person so willing to devote their time to our organization. Thank you Tom!
