PHASE 1: Flying Scot Sails

$13,000.00 Phase 1 GOAL REACHED ~ THANK YOU! ~

PHASE 2: Flying Scot Hulls

PWe have an extremely “aged” fleet that needs to be replaced.

PThe average age of our Flying Scots is 26 years old, with four being at least 33 years old. These six boats are used everyday when programming is underway.

In Phase 2, we will raise money for the express purpose of replacing Flying Scots. There are multiple options to explore for this phase, ranging from used boats to brand new. With all options considered, the current plan for this phase is to replace boats on a schedule of two per season, sourcing well-maintained used hulls as they become available.

The cost of a new Scot would be similar to that of two to three good quality used boats. By sourcing well-maintained hulls, it allows replacement of the whole fleet on a shorter timeline, which is imperative given the age of the current fleet.

This 2026 phase will raise the money to replace one to two of our Flying Scots that are in the most dire condition. In future years, we will continue to pursue a rolling replacement model through additional fundraising efforts.

PHASE 2 GOAL: $10,000.00!

Youth Scholarship Program

DC Sail, a program of the National Maritime Heritage Foundation, is the only community-based non-profit sailing organization in the District of Columbia. Our program revenue and your donations, along with year-around fundraising initiatives, "break the barriers" to entry into the beautiful sport of sailing. With scholarships, DC Sail is able to provide opportunities for the youth of our community to learn how to sail and gain knowledge in boating safety.

The goal of our youth programs is to teach young people the skills they will need to be successful sailors and lifetime skills such as teamwork, decision-making and respect for our fragile waterway systems and overall environment. DC Sail also provides a pathway for continuing to participate in our programs through their school years, and ultimately offers of paid employment opportunities when the sailors are skill and age-eligible!

DC Sail provides over $20,000 worth of scholarships each year. Every donation made to the fund helps to provide a child with the opportunity to learn a sport that can stay with them for a lifetime.
