DC Sail is the community sailing program of the National Maritime Heritage Foundation (NMHF). 

Our mission is to promote and sustain affordable educational, recreational and competitive sailing programs for all ages in a fun and safe environment. DC Sail empowers its participants to develop self-respect and sportsmanship, foster teamwork, and cultivate sailing skills and an appreciation for maritime-related activities. In addition, DC Sail enhances the DC community by using sailing to bolster community spirit and volunteerism.

    Tired after a long week at work, don't feel like cleaning your place,  but still want to have a party?  Let the American Spirit be your host! Here are 3 easy steps to kick off the weekend on the water while under sail.:

New Google Group Mailing List - Sign Up Today

We just created a new mailing list for all sailors to email each other. Sign up for our Google Group to keep in touch with other sailors.

Adult Sailing
We offer a variety of lessons for all skill levels including introductory Learn To Sail classes, refresher classes, racing classes and advanced skills classes. Our  knowledgeable instructors will help you master new skills and grow as a sailor. We offer US Sailing Certification with completion of introductory lessons.

Charters
Our beautiful 65 foot schooner, American Spirit, will let you and up to 35 guests see Washington DC from a perspective unlike any other. We also offer group sails on our Flying Scots every Saturday afternoon.

See our capital city the way early explorers would have seen it, from a sailboat cruising on the historical Potomac River.

Youth Sailing
Our youth sailing program consists of High School Racing, Kids Set Sail Summer Camp and certified after-school programs. We put kids on the water!

Adult sailing revenue, grant funding and memberships allow us to offer scholarships to many of our youth participants.


Get Involved
DC Sail is a community based sailing program. We rely on volunteers, members and donors to help support our programming. This is your community and we want invite everyone in the DC metro area to join us. For more information on volunteering and upcoming events please contact us.

Membership
Membership is extremely affordable and open to the general public. Our Sailing season runs year-round with full fleet in the water April- November and frostbiting on the FJs throughtout the winter.

Membership comes with incredible benefits including rental access to our fleet of 20+ boats consisting of Flying Scots, FJs, Lasers and Bugs.
